It was a dark and stormy night….
We had 9 Helena racers and of course associated support crew who made the Memorial Day weekend pilgrimage to Walla Walla, WA for the Onion Man Triathlon. It was cold and wet most of the weekend, but spirits where good and we made a good showing of Helena and team pride.
Evan Eck – won his age group with a screaming fast race of 2:06. Jason Fuhr also had a very strong race and continues to lead our middle-age pack. Ann Gilbert was 2nd in her age group. Bill, Patty and Karen looked awesome and seemed to really enjoy themselves dispite the cold and rain. Sean, Russ and I had good steady races and sported our team colors with pride, especially after JP provide post-race adult beverages. Thanks JP! Even little Petey wasn’t going to be out down – he barked, growled and slept making the perfect mascot.
Onion Man is a very well organized and long-standing event on Memorial Day weekend. The organizers have been doing this race for a long time and really have it dialed in. They decided to shorten the swim a little this year, and Ann G. was the only one who didn’t cheer when they announced that. It fills up early as they have limited parking at the small lake, so if you plan to go next year remember to register by March.
